FIVE STARS: Great adventure told by a dog. “Lucy by Chris Coppel takes you on an adventure with a Golden Retriever who gets dognapped from her country home. Lucy is one of many dogs taken to transport illegal or stolen items across the borders. Just as things look grim, her new canine friends organize a kennel break. She learns much about the city, people and makes friends along her travels. Can she find a way to stop the dognappers and get back home?
I found Lucy humorous as this lovable dog tells her story. Chris Coppel brings a dog's quest to life while adding events dogs face daily. I loved how the different breeds of dogs had various personalities. Their loyalty to each other as these dogs sought a way home was refreshing. I enjoyed taking this journey with Lucy and her friends..”
FIVE STARS: Such a touching and original idea “This book's premise was so very interesting to me and seemed so original! In this novel Lucy, the main character, is actually a Golden Retriever dog. Smugglers steal poor Lucy from her home and she finds herself at a kennel with other dogs. Lucy along with a Spaniel, Dobermans, Afghan, and Yorkie have to find their way to escape and get back home.
The author doesn't include any information on their experience with dogs, but the book does the talking for him. The author obviously has had a lot of experience with dogs because this book reads like you are just hearing a dog's life story instead of written by a human. This made this story very realistic to me and I kept hoping to see Lucy and her friends able to overcome their challenges and make it home.”
FIVE STARS: Great Story “Lucy by Chris Coppel is a re-imagining of the novel Far From Burden Dell by the same author. This time we have Lucy living a rather sublime life with a wonderful man and Cook. When Lucy's man leaves for Hollywood to pursue and solidify his writing dream, Lucy must adjust to this massive lifestyle change. This is an engaging story filled with wonderful animal characters that come into Lucy's life. Truly a wonderful book filled with the viewpoint of animals, that is so spot on and endearing. If only we could read our pet's minds, we could learn a thing or two about humanity and love. With an overarching message of teamwork and overcoming adversity, this is a great book that will not only appeal to kids but to adults as well. Highly recommend.”
FIVE STARS: How much our pets need us and how much we need them is the moral of this excellent story. “Lucy by Chris Coppel, this story is told with big humur and well knowledge of what a pack of dogs will do when they find themselves lost in the middle of London while trying to find their way home. The book is written from the dogs perspective, which I loved because it reminds me of some things my no more street dogs use to do when they lived in the street, also it is a funny way to see the way they get together in a pack and how they distribute the work to do. But most important the book is about the necessity of Lucy to get back home from where she was stolen in the first place. Is a book that reminds us that we will never be complete without our pets, and them without us.”
FIVE STARS: If you like dogs and are looking for a light reading, look no more. “Lucy is a heartwarming story, a perfect fit for anyone who loves dogs. This is a fun little adventure, revolving around a Golden Retriever, who has to find her way back and counts with a little help from many friends. It’s sweet and funny. The author has a good writing style, making the story flow nicely while keeping the readers entertained. I very much enjoyed it and I’ll recommend it to anyone who has teens or pre-teens with a love for dogs.”
FIVE STARS: A dog’s perspective. “Enter a world of anthropomorphized animals where they speak, laugh, cry and have adventures. Told from a golden retriever's perspective, this imaginative story can be enjoyed by all ages. Older children will love this tale, but it kept this adult interested and turning pages until the end. The novel reminded me of Incredible Journey, which I loved as a kid. There is some peril to the animals here but nothing over the top scary. The author describes this as a gentle story. I would add heartwarming. Sure to please animal lovers of all stripes.”
FIVE STARS: World seen through animal perspective. “Lucy" is a beautiful story of a dog who experiences several adventures in her life. It is a great full-length animal-based novel for kids and reminded slightly of the classic "Black Beauty". The book shows the natural world of animals and how they show comradeship to come out of danger and achieve their respective objectives. I enjoyed the common sense and intelligence of the dog as projected in the story and the various positive and negative experiences that made her more self-disciplined and independent.”
